History

During the past eight years, more than 8000 educators from California and around the nation have participated in “Beyond Diversity”, a thought-provoking, two-day training aimed at helping teachers, administrators and parents define and eradicate racist policies, practices and procedures in their districts, schools and classrooms. This training will focus on forcing educators to grapple with these issues and their effects on students and student success.

Participants will:

Define racism and discover how it is institutionalized in schools;

Develop knowledge and requisite skills for initiating and sustaining “courageous conversations” about the impact of racism on the educational experience of historically low-performing students of color;

Discover ways in which educators individually and collectively perpetuate racism though their daily instructional practices and curricular choices; and

Determine an action plan for developing deeper understanding of racism and engaging in school wide conversation about de-institutionalizing racism in schools.
